Several things can cause hair loss, the most common cause is that it’s hereditary and simply in your genes. However, other causes include stress or recovery from an illness or surgery. Cancer treatments can also result in hair loss, but this will be temporary and it will grow back in time. Then there is hair loss due to alopecia areata, which is a condition where your body’s immune systems start to attack your hair follicles, and this leads to hair loss.

What you can do about your hair loss will depend a lot on what is causing it in the first place, as if you treat certain conditions, this can stop your hair from continuing to fall out and start to regrow. However, this doesn’t always happen and if you are worried about your hair falling out, here are a few other things that you can do at home to slow this process down and stop it from getting worse.

Hair Transplants

If your hair loss is distressing to you, you can always look into a hair transplant as a solution. This is a surgical procedure that removes hair follicles from another part of your body to the area on your head that is balding or thinning out significantly. There are two different types of hair transplant, a FUT (follicular unit transplantation) and an FUE (follicular unit extraction). If this is something that you are interested in exploring further, book in to see a consultant at a clinic like hshairclinic.co.uk for further information and advice.

Avoid Hairstyles that Pull on Your Hair

While you might be tempted to try and hide thinning hair by putting it up in a ponytail or bun, these styles can make the situation worse as they tend to pull tightly on your hair, pulling it out and damaging the follicles. Instead, consider getting a haircut that can improve the appearance of thinner hair and make it less noticeable.

Don’t Bleach Your Hair

Bleaching your hair causes damage, and those who do bleach to colour their hair may already notice how dry their hair is and how easily it breaks. If you do have thinning hair or it’s already falling out, applying these chemicals to it will only speed up the process and make your hair weaker. If you are going to colour your hair, use a dye that won’t be as harsh on your hair or, better yet, avoid colouring your hair altogether.

Avoid Applying Heat

Straighteners, hairdryers, and curling irons can help to create a stylish hairdo, but if you are using these appliances every day, they will be harming your hair. Even though there are heat protector serums available, they won’t help those that are already dealing with hair loss,. Try to let your hair dry naturally and avoid brushing it when it’s wet, as this is when your hair is at its weakest. If you are going to use these appliances, do so sparingly.

If you are experiencing hair loss and are finding it difficult to cope with, consider the tips above and see if they can help you to slow down thinning hair and baldness to help you feel more confident.
