Some people would say that Singapore is an expensive city to visit. But the truth is, the city is a heaven for those who are on a budget. There are many free attractions in the city. Even in Jewel Changi – the newest section of the Changi Airport – you can find many things to see and do that won’t cost you a single dollar. This new section of the airport is beautiful. It’s not surprising that around 300,000 people visit it every day—even people who don’t have flights go there. And one of the reasons for this is the many Jewel Changi free attractions you can find.
Shiseido Forest Valley
One of the most popular Jewel Changi free attractions that you should visit is the Shiseido Forest Valley. Yes, there is an actual forest inside Jewel Changi. And the best part about it is that it’s open to the public and admission there is free of charge. They say that Singapore lacks natural attractions. But where else can you find a forest inside an airport? The forest serves as a sanctuary for those who want to be surrounded by greenery. If you love nature, trees, and plants, you will surely enjoy your time here in this indoor forest.
When you’re at Shiseido, it’s easy to forget that you’re inside a building; the place is enormous, it’s not just a small garden. You can even take a mini hike inside. You’ll even be treated to the site of mini waterfalls. And because the temperature is controlled inside this forest, you’re assured that it will always be cool and comfortable regardless of the weather outside.
Crystal Clouds and Grains of Thought
Jewel Changi is also a place where you can enjoy excellent works of art. Two artworks that you should watch out for when you’re in Jewel Changi are Crystal Clouds and Grains of Thought. Crystal Clouds is an art installation that welcomes visitors at the main entrance of Jewel Changi. Andy Cao and Xavier Perrot created it, and it is a sight to behold. The structure is made up of 16 clouds that are formed using thousands of shimmering crystals. And the best thing about it is that it reflects the different weather patterns through dynamic lighting.
Grains of Thought, on the other hand, was created by Singaporean artist Eng Tow. He is known for artworks that are inspired by nature. This particular piece is composed of sculptures of two big grains of rice. The artist’s purpose is to allow viewers to reflect on the importance of rice in people’s lives.
HSBC Rain Vortex
Among all of the Jewel Changi free attractions, the Rain Vortex is one you shouldn’t miss. This marvel of construction is considered the prime attraction at the airport’s new section; it is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. It pumps more than 37,000 liters of water. The best part is that the water used in this waterfall is supplied by rain.
