In this blog, the UK time presents to you two iconic London daily life essentials – the George London Bridge inn and some tidbits about the massive railway station along with the London bridge live departures!

But first, let us talk a bit about the George London Bridge inn.

The George London Bridge

The George London Bridge is Britain’s one of two galleried coaching inns – the other, however much altered, is the New Inn in Gloucester.

The George London Bridge was established somewhere around the 16th century. It was one of many inns in Southwark that offered hospitality services to travelers leaving or entering London via the nearby London Bridge – which ironically was the only access across the River Thames till 1750.

A tragic fire destroyed the entirety of Southwark in 1676, and the George London Bridge inn was rebuilt almost immediately afterward. The George London Bridge inn today remains as a fragment of its former self as the courtyards and other parts were demolished in 1889 for railway development. Most of the interior of the George London Bridge hotel is modern – except the Parliament Bar, which is located first on the right side; it has outstanding old woodwork, which might even be from the late 17th century. Originally it comprised two rooms at one time.

Closest to the street lies a full-height horizontal boarding and a simple seating area with a venerable fireplace. Here the coach travelers might have waited and been able to tell the time through the one-handed clock. These large clocks appeared in inns and taverns from the mid-18th century; however, later on, they acquired the name Parliament Clocks after 1797. This was when a short-lived 5 shilling clock tax was imposed, encouraging the provision of public ones at the expense of private proprietorship.

At the other end of the room at the George London Bridge is an unusual glazed servery with a unique and rare set of the Victorian cash register. The inn is still popular for its historical significance today and has traveled well through the times to become a London city icon of today!

Live London bridge departures and London Bridge Station

Before we get into the details of London bridge live departures, let’s talk a bit about London Bridge Station first. The London Bridge Station is one of the oldest railway stations in central London – Zone 1 – and one of the oldest stations in the entire world – the station was established in 1836.

The London Bridge station has plenty of stories and an incredible history attached to it, from rebuilding projects to changing and shaping the face of its current architecture over the years. The latest addition/upgrade to the station was completed in 2018, which added a new concourse and many other operational and passenger benefitting amenities.

The below list of London bridge live departures will shed light on the many attractions that are accessible through the London Bridge station, including the Southwark Cathedral and the iconic Tower of London, from which the station has acquired its name too.

In addition to all this, the Shard, a 94-story skyscraper building, offers amazing views of the city near the southern side. Other than the train routes, you can also find numerous bus routes serving the station and rail networks to the river bus through the London Bridge City Pier.

How do I get to the London Bridge?

At the same time, the Tower Gateway DLR station, which is 9 minutes walk, and the Fenchurch Street National railway station, which is a 12-minute walk, are the next two closest railway stations to the tower bridge.
