WateTypes of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that specifically affects the skin. It is usually found on the outer layer of the skin and is the most common type of cancer.

Cancer usually occurs when normal cells undergo a transformation resulting in them multiplying without any control. As they multiply, they form a mass called tumors, tumors of the skin are usually known as lesions.

There are two most common types of skin cancer known as basal cell carcinoma and squamous carcinoma.

Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer as it usually tends to spread through the entire body as quickly as possible. It is best treated when detected early and medical attention is applied.

The symptoms of melanoma cancer include such things as a change in color, size shape, or texture of the skin. Skin lesions with irregular borders accompanied by enlargement of an existing skin lesion can be an indication of this type of cancer. A large brown spot with darker speckles can also be a symptom.

Ultraviolet radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer. UV  rays are invisible and usually damage the DNA which usually makes up genes.

Genes control the average growth of skin cells. If the DNA is damaged there will be uncontrolled development of the skin cells leading to skin cancers. UV can also cause sunburn that usually makes the skin look prematurely old and wrinkled. Skin cancer is also thought to be hereditary so caution needs to be taken.

All the type of cancer can basically be treated by surgery during the initial stages. Surgery involves the removal of the tumor when it is relatively thin.

When the cancer is in advanced stages immunotherapy is highly advised as it will help the body’s immune system find & attack the cancer cells. This process involves the usage of materials made either in the body or laboratory to boost, target, and restores the immune system.

Chemotherapy is another method used in treating skin cancer. This process involves the usage of drugs to kill the cancer cells throughout the body. Such kinds of drugs include dacarbazine, carboplatin, cisplatin, etc. Talking with a medical practitioner is the best thing to do to get the best drug for the type of cancer you have.

Nutrition is highly essential and the cheapest way of preventing skin cancer. Taking antioxidants which are foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, zinc, fats, and proteins is known to fight against cancerous cells. Eating a well-balanced diet can help the body cope with the effects of chemotherapy or other treatment.
