Industry Insights – Everyone wants to work at home, but are you well equipped?
I have come across many people who want to work from home in Singapore. There are three types of people in this category:
The first type is the ‘window shopper.’ Window shoppers are those whose goal is only to find an opportunity to earn money from home, but they don’t honestly want to work. These people do not need any chance; they already have a job or business and want to make easy money.
How would you know if someone is a window shopper? Simple, ask them the following questions:
- How much time would you have every day to devote to the project?
- Where do you currently work, or what is your current schedule?
- What are your specific, detailed expectations of this opportunity?
They are just window shoppers if they answer ‘I don’t know’ to any of these questions. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against window shoppers. I want to let you know that these are the people who are not serious about working from home.
The second type is usually young mothers who are staying at home with their small children. Such opportunities might be a good fit for them if they have the required skills or talents to work online.
However, keep in mind that young children are very demanding. You have got to have a lot of patience, skills, and knowledge to work with them.
Young mothers need to be patient and disciplined as it is not easy to balance their family and work simultaneously. If you fail at balancing both, you will end up spending much less time with your children.
They are at the most risk of giving up on their work when things get tough. Most young mothers feel guilty when they spend time working for money instead of taking care of their children or doing household chores.
That is not to say that you cannot work from home in Singapore if you have kids, but consider all the things that come with it.
The third type – ‘those who want to stay at home.’ These people have a current job but don’t like going to work every day so they would rather spend their days and nights at home. They generally do not care about how much they get paid for their time. All they know is that they want to work from home.
Many people fall into this category, but I have noticed that most of these people start believing the lies they read on the internet. They ignore their instincts and take up all kinds of opportunities just because someone claims to have discovered a golden opportunity that will make them rich overnight! Nothing like that exists.
Bottom line
Some people will tell you that they have made thousands working from home, but the truth is these success stories are usually paid for to promote their business or product. They never mention the costs involved in running their business, nor do they share how long it took them before they started earning big bucks.
I have seen people making good money from home in Singapore, but the only secret is persistence and patience. You see, nobody makes big bucks overnight or in a year. It takes time to build your business, so you need to be patient and work hard for it day after day without giving up until you start seeing results.
