Who would try to avoid a new view being added to their room? Any individual who has, at any point, endeavored to accomplish this by refurbishing will know exactly how long, troublesome, and stressful pulling out the old wallpaper is to apply a new one. You would need an expert level of tolerance to thoroughly scratch off the old wallpaper. When you start working on this task, you feel that wallpaper removal is an endless task. Regularly, there is more than one layer of wallpaper to manage; some of them might have been covered up repeatedly, which makes even the newest of wallpaper look visually dull. It is important to go the right way to see the dramatic change that a new wallpaper can bring to the room.

Clearing it might seem surprising, but many people have this question somewhere in the back of their minds: Can I layer a new wallpaper over the old one? However, many experts would suggest you not to use this method, but when done properly, the method can be as good as new.

You might be managing a few layers of wallpaper or want to apply wallpaper over walls that are not primed. You might also get to deal with the layer stuck hard to the wall using the strongest adhesive known to exist; there are different choices other than going through days with compound strippers and a scrubber. The way into a professional cover-up is all in the prep work. Assuming you take as much time as is needed with each undertaking and don’t compromise, you can add a lovely new look to your space without eliminating the old backdrop.

Here are certain tips that you should try when you are covering up your old wallpaper with a new one.

  1. Overlapping similar patterns

Assuming there is a specific tone and design on the wallpaper that has been previously added to the wall. Rather than putting time in removing it or investing effort in scrubbing out the full wallpaper, you can always look for new self-adhesive wallpapers that match the previous tone.

For instance, if you’re looking for a floral tone in your new wallpaper or you previously had a wallpaper put on your walls that does not have bold designs for bright colors, you can easily use new wallpaper to overlap the previous one. Overlapping the floral wallpaper on such wallpapers would ensure that there are no hues visible from the previous wallpaper. This way, the whole design, even the slightly visible designs from the previous wallpaper, becomes part of the new one.

2. Try to cover the original wallpaper with paint.

You can also try painting the original wallpaper with a prime color or basic tone instead of scrubbing it out. This would create a plane with a base color to accommodate the new wallpaper, just like a fresh wall.

For instance, many times, it happens in many houses that have kids who would want to create a room that suits the age of the baby. So when they are just toddlers, then bright shades with certain cartoon characters would look very appealing for the kid’s room. But as the kid grows, he also outgrows the pattern that has been printed on the wall. So, you can always find a new peel-and-stick kids wallpaper that is perfect for the age and as per your kid’s taste. To do this, you start applying new wallpaper to the previous one. You can find certain hints of the designs printed on the previous wallpaper visible on the new one. If this happens, it completely destroys the look of the new wallpaper, and even a fresh one would look very dull. You can paint a prime base color that matches the new shade of wallpaper you have chosen. So when you apply the new wallpaper on this base, your wallpaper will look cleaner, brighter, and good, giving a very fresh and you vibe to the whole room.

Bottom line

Regardless of whether they were cleaned routinely, wallpapers tend to gather soil particles and dirt, and get damaged throughout the long term. So dull spots, discolorations, and residual dirt are inevitable. With time, you need to change this old wallpaper and get in a fresh new look by applying a new one. Sometimes removing the old wallpaper from the wall and filling up the unevenness, making it plane and abrasion-free for application of the new wallpaper, can be a very troublesome and hectic task. So, you can also try to add new wallpaper to the previous one itself. You just need to keep in mind certain points before wearing fresh wallpaper over the old one. These points are mentioned above, and if you go through them, you can change the look of your room whenever you feel the need.
