We often use the word ‘scar’ to refer to unpleasant yet unforgettable events of our lives. Also, the literal scars we often get on our skins due to various accidents or unpleasant events can remind us of those things. That’s why you might want to get rid of your scar, or at least make it as little visible as possible. Even if you don’t have any serious reason behind the scar appearing on your body, you might still want to make the scar look less visible. It can affect your appearance and make you feel self-conscious.

How Scars Get Formed and How You Can Prevent Them

Scars generally form as a part of the natural healing process a person goes through after an injury. When the second layer of your skin, or the dermis gets damaged due to some reason, your body starts forming collagen fibers in order to repair the damage. This results in a scar later on.

Usually, the severity of a scar depends on the severity of the damage or injury you faced. Scars also get formed differently in different places of the body, and they also form differently based on a person’s age. There are different types of scars, such as:

  • Atrophic Scars
  • Hypertrophic Scars
  • Keloid Scars
  • Contracture Scars

You can prevent scars by preventing getting injured or wounded. However, that’s not possible nor practical. All you can do is try and minimize the scar. You can take quick measures so that the scar doesn’t get severe, and get more visible.

The faster your wound will get healed, your body will deposit less amount of collagen, and the less visible your scar will be. So, it is important to act as soon as you can after suffering an injury or wound. The faster you’ll be able to take care of it, the less visible the scar will be. You can at least try keeping the wound clean and hydrated and use bandages to keep it from getting exposed to infectious substances and direct sunlight.

Even after all that is done, it is normal to have scars after suffering a severe wound or injury. Some scars fade away with time, while some are more of a more stubborn nature. You can take various measures to make those scars look less visible.

Ways of Making Your Scars Look Less Visible

Here are some measures that you can take to make your scars look less visible-

Not Exposing the Scar to the Sun

Many people believe that exposing their scar to the sun for a long period of time can help the scar blend in with their skin. This is not true at all. In fact, exposure to the sun can cause further discoloration to the scars. The tissues of the scar are much more prone to damage by the sun than the tissues of the other parts of the skin.

You must be careful when you go out in the sun, and protect yourself and your scar from the UV rays of the sun. You can apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to your scar and your skin. You can also wear clothing that keeps your scar from getting exposed to the sun.

Going for Tropical Treatments

There are various natural ingredients you can use for the treatment of your scars. These ingredients have healing particles that can help make your scars less visible. Some such treatment methods are:

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a great natural ingredient for dealing with wounds and scars. You will need to scoop out the light green gel of aloe vera after removing the dark green skin of an aloe vera leaf. After that, apply the gel to your scar directly in circular motions. Wash the gels off after half an hour. Do it twice every day until you get the results.

Vitamin E

Apply vitamin E oil to your scar and massage it on and around your scar for around 10 minutes. Then use warm water to wash the oil off. Keep doing it 3 times a day until you get the results.

Lavender and Olive Oil

You’ll need to make a mixture of 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil and 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Then use the mixture to massage your scarred area for 5 minutes. Let it rest for around 30 minutes before washing the area using warm water.

Apple Cider Vinegar

You’ll have to make a mixture of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and four tablespoons of distilled water. Use a cotton ball to dab your scar generously after dipping it into the mixture. Let the area dry. Keep doing this every night before going to bed, and make sure to wash the scar in the morning.

Honey

Cover your scar using a layer of honey every night before going to bed. Wrap the scar with a bandage after applying the honey, and then wash off the area after removing the bandage in the morning.

Frankincense and Rosehip

Use equal parts of frankincense and rosehip essential oil, and mix them to massage your scar. Then rinse the area gently with warm water after 45 minutes. Keep doing this 3 times a day until you get the results.

Aside from the mentioned ones, you can also use lemon, potato, baking soda, coconut oil, etc. to treat your scar.

Medications

There are various medications and gels are available that you can use to deal with your scars. These include over-the-counter skin medications or creams, silicone gel, zinc supplements, dermabrasion, or a chemical peel, special injections, punch excision surgery, subcision, etc. These can help your scar to fade away, or look less visible.

Using Light Therapy

Light therapy is one of the most popular and effective forms of therapy. Light therapy can be of different types, as different colors of light are used in light therapy. Light therapy provides its users with numerous benefits. It can help with various skin problems, wounds, and injuries.

Light therapy can help with scars too. If you expose your scars to the strong light emitted by a light therapy device, the light will penetrate your skin and work on a cellular level. This will help it deal with specific blood vessels and generate the necessary chemical reactions. That will make your scars blend in with your skin, or at least make them look less visible.

Taking light therapy on a regular basis can be of huge help in treating your scars. Also, you can take light therapy easily at home. On top of that, it doesn’t have any notable side effects.

Final Words

Sometimes scars can be a real pain to deal with. They can come in the way of how you look, or they can create problems in wearing your favorite outfits. So, make sure to go through your preferred measure from the list mentioned above. Deal with your scars, and you can make them fade, or look less visible than they are.
