All of us have the ambition to live a long life, but this is often down to how we take care of our health and wellbeing. Making healthy choices isn’t always easy – especially when we are surrounded by bad habits that cause us to neglect our health from time to time. In other instances, you may not simply be aware of what are the correct things to do to best take care of your body and mind. The good news is that you can take charge of your health and wellbeing with a few key pointers. In this blog, we’re going to outline some of the best tips for living a healthier lifestyle:

Eat a well-balanced diet

The first pointer we’re going to mention is to eat well. This can be easier said than done with the temptation of junk food always there. However, a poor diet can lead to several health complaints including the likes of obesity, heart disease, and stroke. You should be consuming a variety of foods to make up a balanced diet, including fruit, vegetables, lean meat, nuts, and grains. Each of these foods should be eaten in accurate proportions to sustain a healthy body weight and prevent health issues from arising in the future.

Get enough sleep

Many of us fail to get the right amount of sleep and, as a result, struggle to function properly the next day. What’s more, a constant lack of sleep can be harmful to our well-being. On average, adults should be getting at least eight hours of quality sleep per night to remain in good physical health, as well as maintaining a positive mood and preserving energy levels. Research has also suggested that poor sleep routines can also have a knock-on effect on our diet, and potentially lead to overindulgence.

Exercise

It’s no secret that exercise is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, but many of us are guilty of putting it on the back burner. You may have the excuse that you’re simply too busy or haven’t got the motivation to lead a regular exercise routine. However, keeping fit doesn’t have to be time-consuming or strenuous. You can integrate physical activity into your everyday routine, whether that be walking around the neighbourhood with your dog, taking the stairs instead (as opposed to the lift) at work, or even doing chores around the house.

Keep track of your weight

If your GP suggests it would be worthwhile losing weight to benefit your health, there are many methods to keep in mind. Fad dieting isn’t the most suitable choice and can be dangerous if it is not managed properly, causing hormonal changes, damage to bone density, and it can even lead to mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression.

It is always best to take a slow and steady approach to achieve your goals. Instead of making huge lifestyle changes that are impossible to maintain, it’s all about making small tweaks to your everyday lifestyle to make it work for you. When it comes to diet, this may include reducing the amount of sugar and fatty foods consumed and adding more protein to your meals.

If, however, you need some extra help to reduce body weight in specific areas, you could consider undergoing a lipo body contouring treatment at a clinic like Hans Place Practice. This method is designed to tackle areas of fat, particularly on the stomach and thighs, to create a body shape you’re satisfied with.

Reduce your alcohol intake

While you may like to enjoy alcohol on a recreational basis, binge-drinking regularly can pose significant risks to your health, both mentally and physically. The average adult should drink no more than 14 units weekly if they wish to remain in good health. Scientific research claims that some of the most common illnesses associated with alcohol consumption include cancer and heart disease. Do remember that alcohol should be avoided at all costs when pregnant or behind the wheel.

Stay out of the sun

During the summer months, you may enjoy spending your days in the sun. However, do you truly know the damage that long-term sun exposure can cause? The sun is most harmful between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm, which is when harmful UV rays are emitted. This can cause changes in the skin’s cells that may result in skin cancer later on in life. When the sun is at its very strongest, always ensure you stay in the shade and wear high-factor sun cream as a protective barrier against UV damage.
